Pretty good camping spot,
Very strange campground with limited shade. I felt a tad unsafe. Felt like I was camping in an urban park under a bridge with really outdated bathrooms, outdoor showers and tons of strangers walking in and out to use the bathroom. There are signs telling people not to, but they don't care. It's on a public access to a beach and park, meaning lots of people and vagrants hang around the site. Still, it's close enough to the Staten Island ferry to be a great, affordable way to visit NYC. Just don't leave anything valuable in your site. The staff were nice.
If I could give 50 stars, I would. This is simply one of the loveliest and most pleasant camping experiences I've ever had. If you're feeling that $30 is a little steep for tent camping and are wondering why the price tag, just go for it-- you will soon realize that you're getting your money's worth and more! First off, free firewood every night is just amazing. Being surrounded by nature and cut-off from the daily noise but still being in New York City is just amazing. Walking distance to the abandoned Fort Collins and South Beach-- amazing. There are seven cozy campsites, each with a tent pad and fire pit/ grill. There are great showers and bathrooms. Plenty of shade. And most of all, the rangers are some of the most dedicated, helpful, knowledgeable, and just plain friendly that you will ever find. Especially ranger Kathy, who took great care of us during our two-night stay. Lots of tourists do utilize this campground, so be sure to book your stay in advance. There is nothing I would change about this campsite!
Beach: located right around the corner.
Bathroom: clean and located very close to the camping grounds
Great Campground with amazing views and even more amazing campground staff! Very friendly atmosphere as the campground only has room for 7 or 8 tents. I hope they keep it small as it is one of the appealing attributes of the campground!
It's the perfect spot if you're new to the whole camping experience and want to take things slow.
A cute little campground of 7 sites. A great place to watch the freighters and cruise ships enter and leave NY harbor. One of the only campgrounds I've visited that provides every site with firewood.
Staff: Incredibly helpful
